Welcome to Ribbonwood Retreat. Your bed and breakfast hosts Jonathan, a wildlife ranger and Julie, international school teacher are experts on history and ecology of the glacier region. We are passionate hikers and bird watchers who can show you the best places to visit.

Ribbonwood Retreat is a new modern home, uniquely situated in a quiet rural landscape, a few minutes drive from the village and ten minutes drive from the glacier.

Our smaller ground floor room, (10 sq m) with queen bed and large private bathroom (5 sq m.) The room features both a bath and a high flow shower as well as a separate walk in wardrobe. The room has private access with a ranch slider out onto a large deck where you can enjoy the views of mountains, forests, and glaciers and our iconic tui feeding in the flaxes.
Stylish and separate self contained cottage (40 sq m), featuring stained wood paneling, large private deck with a king bed, single bed.. Suitable for double, twin or triples.
Our Scandinavian style cottage is solid timber, so wood is the dominant feature. There is kitchenette with drink making facilities and an en suite bathroom with high flow shower. Large windows let in as much daylight as possible and ranch slider doors open out to the deck.
Enjoy views towards the glaciers, mountains and forests of Westland National Park.
The cottage has a wheelchair ramp, accessible bathroom facilities, wide doors, a slide shower, shower chair and hand rails.
Ribbonwood Retreat is conveniently located 5 km from Franz Josef Glacier Village, close to the restaurants (some offer a complimentary taxi service to and fro.)
We are 10 minutes drive from the glacier, 10 km south from us.

The spacious Waiho Rooms on the top floor of the house - where your party have the exclusive use of the top floor of the house with two rooms for a double, twin, or a group of three traveling together. The roomy Waiho master bedroom (35 sq m) has a king bed and a single bed with views of the glaciers and mountains. It includes a desk, walk in wardrobe and sofa. The smaller Waiho bedroom (12 sq m) has a queen bed. Both rooms share the bathroom.
Ranch slider doors for both rooms open out to the deck, where you can enjoy views of garden, farmland and the forests of Westland National Park.
Due to safety issues with stairs and the balcony, the Wahio rooms are not suitable for children under 7 years.
